“Strengthening the Ties” - Haiti and Santo Domingo Unite

JANUARY 2007 – CENTRO OLYPICO JUAN PABLO - Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – Brother Hood Forever, Inc. will be making history on March 3, 2007 at the First Cultural Festival of the Island, Primer Festival Cultural de la Isla, as they host, for the very first time, a Compas Festival devoted to the more than 1.3 million Haitians that call the Dominican Republic home.

As Buccaneers and Pirates allowed the French to conquer the western part of Espanola and turn it into the colony of Saint Dominigue, now known as Haiti, the eastern part of the Island remained under Spanish domination and is now known as the Dominican Republic. Throughout the years, though the boarder is easily accessible, the lines of division are very well defined. Haitians and Dominicans have had their differences but now this initiative will bridge the never ending gap between an entire island.

In 2005, as the first promoters to bring Haitian musical bands to the Dominican Republic for the enjoyment of those professionals and thousands of students that live there, Brother Hood Forever, Inc., created the First Cultural Festival of the Island in the hopes of serving the hungry masses of this specific demographic.

With a hand full of the hottest Haitian entertainers including, T-Vice, K-dans, TanTan with Charlot, Mass Kompa, Djakout Mizik, and top Dominican performers Los Hermanos Rosarios and Don Miguelo, the first edition of this massive, historical event is sure to open the door to understanding the very similar cultures in two countries that for years have been alienated.

As said by the President of Brother Hood Forever, Inc. “It was important for us to show our beauty, our traditions and our rich music to everyone no matter what ethnicity, so that they could see we are both occupying the same island and we are all worthy. Hopefully this initiative will unite us and help fuse a bond between Dominicans and Haitians to help us all prosper together in the future.” The First Compas Festival of the Island is going to mark a milestone and with the final plans now being executed it is sure to become a tradition.
